The Assembly Network has been recognized with 36 awards from the North Carolina Press Association this year. That includes The Assembly‘s third win in a row on the Duke University/Green-Rossiter Award Distinguished Newspaper Work in Higher Education Reporting.

Carli Brosseau and Sarah Nagem have been recognized with the Henry Lee Weathers Freedom of Information Award for their dogged pursuit of public records in Columbus County.

Assembly contributing photographer Cornell Watson was recognized as the Hugh Morton Photographer of the Year, while our collaborative project on Shotspotter that drew from teams in Greensboro, Wilmington, Durham, and Fayetteville won for City and County Government Reporting.

All our newsrooms compete in Division O, for online news. The annual awards dinner will be held September 18, 2025.

The Assembly Network is redefining how North Carolinians connect with the places they live. Our mission is to deliver trusted local news, compelling storytelling, and uniquely voiced cultural coverage that help readers understand and navigate where they live.

In addition to our statewide newsroom covering power and place, our local network includes INDY in the Triangle, CityView in Fayetteville, the Border Belt Independent in the Sandhills, and The Thread in Greensboro. Our work is made possible by a combination of subscriber and member support, advertising, events, and philanthropy.
